Gettin' Our Green On

Happy Memorial Day weekend, everyone! This is one of the best weekends of the year because the city just empties out! Thousands and thousands of people head out to The Hamptons or The Caribbean or just anywhere not NYC, making my city pretty much a ghost town. So now there are only 7 million people here versus the usual 8 or so ;-) Being one of the families that didn't go anywhere this year, we decided to have a lazy Saturday and take a stroll to the Union Square Green Market, which we love going to. There's always so much to see and smell and taste, it's a party for all your senses. Get your party on! My mom came along for the easy lazy yet fun day. Here are some pics from the Green fun...

I let The Goob bring some of her piggy bank money and let her choose a snack. Her choice was maple cotton candy made with real maple from real maple trees.
She was so excited that her cotton candy came from trees ;-)

I love how GREEN the Green market is. Literally. There are so many plants and flowers. And for my mini gardener, this is perfect!

Mikayla kept calling this one 'The Family Tree' because of the intertwined roots.
I teared up. Just a little.

This is one is for Grammy & Poppy...See?! We have cactuses here too! (Grammy & Poppy live in Arizona. And yes, I know it's cacti, not cactuses lol)

Smelling & talking to all the bushes and flowers

Having a difficult time decided which plant to bring home to re-plant

My mama's choice. She asked me not to post this pic because she didn't have a manicure.
Sorry, Mom.

I can't get over the gorgeous purple color of these Lilacs! So spring, so beautiful!

The Flower Whisperer. I wonder what they were chatting about.

All these baby peonies just waiting to be brought home to bloom!!

This one looks pretty bloomed :-)

No Union Square stroll is complete without some time at the playground.
And even better when you run into friends from school there!

Best seat in the house

She's afraid of heights, so this was a big accomplishment for her!
WOOHOO!

She played in the sand and came back glittery...

After the playground, we looked for some fruits and veggies...and some more honey.
And listened to Spidey.

I love radishes! Perfect for warm weather dinners and picnics.
And these folks brought the farm with them!

Got some crisp apples as well

After all that Green Market wholesomeness, we went to the dark side with some ice cream.
Oops.

I'm so excited warm weather is here to stay and we can make more visits to this and other farmer's markets throughout the city. We just won't have it all to ourselves like this weekend!
