So, after much back and forth debating for the better part of a year regarding ear-piercing our 6yr old diva, the mini has won...again. Depending on who you ask, we waited way too long (my old-school family) or she's too young (everyone else). It's not that we were against getting her ears pierced for a cause, like some stand against stereotypical gender roles or anything like that. I'm all about sparkly accessories! We just never really thought about it. It wasn't a priority in our new-parent checklist, heck, it wasn't even on the list. When she was born, we didn't poke holes in her ears 5 minutes after she was born and my mom sadly put away the box of her 1st teeny sparkly studs. Over the years, my mom has made quite a few passive aggressive comments about how she's the only grandma whose granddaughter doesn't have her ears pierced. There are worst things to be singled out for. It wasn't until last year when Mikayla was in Kindergarten that she asked for earrings. Not stick on earrings...but, big girl earrings. The kind that 'go through your ears!'. Her enthusiasm for glittery sparkly shiny lobe accessories actually warmed my heart as I've always dreamed of the days of frolicking hand in hand, shopping together for baubles. My Hubs, the dream crasher, quickly reminded me that at 5yrs old, she would be well aware of a needle gun scarily close to her face about to poke holes in her ears and cause lifelong trauma. Or a screaming/crying soundtrack for the next 10 min. Valid point (on the screaming). But our mini is a determined little one and after a year of much begging, a multitude of puppy-eyes, and compelling evidence, we finally gave in. So, yesterday I took her to Cozy Cuts and after a whopping 30 seconds, she was pierced! The were great there! She picked out her fave earrings, the stylist was super gentle with her and she got a lollipop & free toy once it was over. I may have shed a tear once I saw her little sparkly earlobe. A girl after my own heart!
Can you tell she was excited?
Before...
And....After!
