Yes, National Running Day was 2 days ago and I'm only chatting about it now. But, I guess that makes sense for me since I've dropped the ball (again!) with my blogging. But I'm making a real conscious effort to keep up with it for my own sanity and to share some of my insanity!
So, how did I spend National Running Day? With a run of course! Through Brooklyn Bridge Park, one of my favorite reasons of why I love my city so much. I ran a little over 2 miles, nothing major but still had a great fun run. I never thought I'd actually say a run was 'fun'!
Running was never easy for me. It's still not easy and will never be, and I like that! But I had made every excuse as to why I 'couldn't' run when I was heavier...my thunder thighs would chafe, no time, nobody to run with, not fast, not the right body type, the list goes on. Once I had lost a little bit of weight, I went out for a run and realized that even though I was sweaty and out of breath and wanted to puke, I actually loved it! Along the way, I've learned that body glide does a body good, there's always time if you put the remote down, I have a whole running family to run with now, there's always a party in the back corrals, and that this body may not the the 'right type' but it's gotten me through multiple 5k/10k/half marathons and soon marathon and I'm more than ok with that! These legs have powered me through tough Harlem Hills and freezing temps and late night tired runs and I'm still standing. Still ready to lace up my sneakers, tighten my ponytail and just get it! And still ready to see where these feet take me on this ever-moving journey called life!
